THOROUGHBRED SPIRIT RELIEF FUND 2008
The Thoroughbred Spirit Relief Fund was set up to provide immediate financial assistance to families displaced by natural disasters. This special fund was first established in September 2006 by the G&E Hill Foundation to provide financial assistance to displaced families in New Orleans and Texas in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita (for more on this click the STORIES link above). In 2008, yet another devastating storm, Hurricane Ike, displaced thousands of families. The G&E Hill Foundation, as it did in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, came to the aid of many displaced families in need of immediate financial aid.
Are you still in need of assistance?
Application forms (limited number) will be made available to families that have been displaced by Hurricane Ike and are still living in the home of a host family.

The Make It Right Foundation - December 2007
The Make It Right Foundation plan, sponsored by actor Brad Pitt announced a plan today to build uniquely designed houses for former 9th Ward residents who lost their homes because of the hurricane. These residents will be offered the opportunity to buy the program houses at affordable prices, adjusted for their income status.
Area officials and advocates for hurricane survivors say that the most pressing problem for the recovery of the region is the shortage of affordable housing.
To apply for the program, please click here. The site shows the variety of available homebuilding designs, tells visitors how to donate to the cause, and lets former residents know how they can apply for the houses.
You are urged to share the above information with those that will benefit.
New Orleans Post Hurricane Katrina - April 2007
Will the images ever improve?
It seems that clean-up efforts in New Orleans have been moving at a snail's pace. Sadly, according to the following report from the Angel Lane Community Information Administration, not much has changed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in many locations throughout New Orleans:
"Just had to share the sad reality that photos taken in April 2007 of various locations throughout the New Orleans area show that much work remains to be done to revive many neighborhoods in New Orleans. What is interesting is that person who took these photos took some of these same shots right after Katrina and now has retaken some of the same pictures only to find that many of them still look like they did right after Katrina.
You are urged to share this with people so that they will know that, despite what the media spins, little progress is being made and apathy has taken root. If you do not care, then who will?"
Thoroughbred Spirit Relief Fund - 2006
The G&E Hill Foundation suspended its 2006 Bicycle Give-Away to underprivileged children in order to seed a special Thoroughbred Spirit Relief Fund, set up to provide emergency support to families displaced in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina. Our 2007 Christmas Bicycle Giveaway remained on schedule.
All funds raised went to families displaced by Hurricane Katrina that had been taken in by individual families who opened their homes to them as the recovery efforts continued. The Thoroughbred Spirit Relief Fund worked cooperatively with churches and states neighboring affected areas to identify displaced families in need of assistance. There continues to be a tremendous need and the gap in meeting that need is still wide.
Once it was determined which of the displaced families being housed by host families were to receive relief assistance through the Thoroughbred Spirit Relief Fund, a cash donation was forwarded to those families.
Thousands of families were affected by this tragedy. Generous donations from many kind souls helped these displaced families in desperate need during a most difficult time. The Thoroughbred Spirit Relief Fund committed itself to delivering relief to displaced families in need and ensured that the dollars donated to the Fund went to the families that needed them.
